Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Victoria, BC - In a Sunday afternoon match-up the Victoria Salmon Kings and Ontario Reign met in the final contest of a four-game set. Goaltender Julien Ellis started in net for the Kings while the Reign countered with Jeff Zatkoff.

With a demanding schedule, Victoria and Ontario looked to finish off their fourth game in five days. With opportunities at both ends Zatkoff and Ellis continued their impressive goaltending performances from last night into today's game by stopping all of their opponent's shots. The first period would end deadlocked at 0-0.

Victoria was first to get on the scoreboard at the 3:37 mark of the middle frame. Jordie Benn made a pass up the middle of the neutral zone to spring Wes Goldie on a 3-2 rush. Goldie would hand off the puck to Adam Taylor coming down the wing. Zatkoff would stop Taylor's initial shot but kicked out a rebound leaving Scott Howes to bang home his sixth goal of the season. Ontario would tie the game up on the power play at the 7:09 mark. Tim Kraus's point shot jumped off the end boards ending up on Jon Rheaults stick and he would net his 16th goal of the season. The teams would skate into the second intermission with a 1-1 tie.

Salmon Kings got their second goal of the game at the 15:53 mark of the final frame. Matt Kelly walked in from the point and delivered a pass to Brady Leavold who sat in front of the Ontario net. Leavold was stopped initially on the tip, but would collect his fourth of the season by sliding the puck through Zatkoff's legs. With an empty net and one second left, Taylor would net his eight goal of the season to close out the game and the series. Salmon Kings 3 Reign 1.

Victoria finished 1/5 = 20% on the power play, while Las Vegas finished 1/4= 25%. The Salmon Kings outshot the Reign 37-22.

Idaho comes to town this week to close out the Salmon Kings' 2008-09 regular season home schedule. Game times are 7:05PM for Wednesday, Friday and Saturday evenings. Puck drop for the Salmon Kings' final regular season home game on Sunday is at 1:05. For tickets, call 220-7777 or visit www.selectyourtickets.com.
