Wilmington Blue Rocks News Release

WILMINGTON, DE - Thursday night's Wilmington Blue Rocks game against the Potomac Nationals was suspended going into the bottom of the third inning due to rain at Frawley Stadium. The game, which was the first of the season's second-half, was scoreless at the time it was suspended. The game will resume on Friday evening at 5:05 p.m. and it will play through as a normal nine-inning game. That game will be followed by Friday's normally scheduled contest, which will be played as a seven-inning affair.

The rain was falling lightly from first pitch, but it looked as though they might be able to get the game in until it picked up in the third inning, forcing the umpires to pull the tarp and, eventually, suspend the game. The suspension was unfortunate for the Blue Rocks and starter Yender Caramo who was perfect through three innings. Caramo worked three 1-2-3 frames, striking out a batter and inducing groundballs from six of the nine batters he faced.

While Caramo did not have a lead when the game was suspended, the Rocks' offense had their chances to cash in against Potomac hurler Lucas Giolito. In the first inning, Carlos Garcia worked a walk in what ended up being a seven-pitch at-bat to leadoff the game for Wilmington. With Garcia at first, Jack Lopez tried bunting him into scoring position, but was helped out by Giolito who fielded the bunt and threw it away from John Wooten at first, allowing both runners to move up. With runners on second and third and no outs, Potomac would keep the infield back. A Mauricio Ramos slow-chopper to third, though, would keep both runners at their respective bases as Ramos was thrown out at first for the first out of the inning. Giolito would then bare down and strikeout Cody Stubbs and Frank Schwindel to strand both runners and keep the contest scoreless. In the second inning, another error would help the Rocks as Dex Kjerstad reached first with one out on a Wooten miscue. However, Kjerstad would get himself out as he took off for second base and, despite having the bag stolen, started back for first and was tagged for a bizarre second out. The ball had gotten past the catcher Craig Manuel, but he threw to Wooten at first who passed it onto shortstop Stephen Perez to tag Kjerstad.

Blue Rocks fans at Frawley Stadium on Friday night will not only be treated to bonus baseball, but they will get their first look at the Cowboy Monkey Rodeo in 2015, which returns to Delaware on Friday for the first of their three appearances in Wilmington this summer. Fans can still purchase tickets for Friday's games by calling the ticket office at 302-888-BLUE or by going to www.bluerocks.com.
