
Nathans Becomes Eighth Key to Receive Promotion

FREDERICK, Md. -The Frederick Keys are pleased to announce that Tucker Nathans has been promoted to the Double-A Bowie Baysox. A Carolina League All-Star, Nathans becomes the eighth member of the Keys to receive a promotion in 2015. That list includes: Drew Dosch, Trey Mancini, Austin Wynns, Dennis Torres, Jhonathan Ramos, Anthony Caronia and Jarett Miller.
One of the Carolina League's top hitters this season, Nathans batted .290 with seven home runs, 30 RBIs, a triple and 11 doubles in 61 games. At the time of his call-up, the New York native was eighth in the CL in batting average and fourth in on-base percentage (.374). In the month of June, he was batting .275 through 19 games with three home runs and eight RBIs.
Nathans receives his first call-up to Double-A after spending parts of the last three seasons with Frederick. In 2014, he batted .271 in 91 games with three home runs, 26 RBIs and 17 doubles, he split the 2013 between the Keys and Low-A Delmarva hitting a combined .275 between the two levels.
Signed by the Orioles as a non-drafted free agent in February 2013, Nathans played two seasons of independent baseball before joining the Orioles. As a member of the Newark Bears of the Can-am League, Nathans won "Rookie of the Year" in 2012 after hitting .307 with 30 RBIs in 56 games. The 26-year-old played his college baseball at Fairfield University and left as the program leader in hits, doubles and triples.
In one of several corresponding moves, Tanner Witt joins the Keys from the Rockford Aviators of the Frontier League after having his contract purchased by the Orioles. In 29 games, he batted .355 with a home run and 22 RBIs. The Frontier League's "Rookie of the Year" in 2014, Witt hit .305 with four home runs and 39 RBIs. Signed by the Cubs in the offseason, the 24-year-old was released out of spring training and returned to the Aviators. He played his college baseball at Kansas State.
He is joined by newcomer Conor Bierfeldt, who comes to Frederick from Low-A Delmarva. In 62 games with the Shorebirds he hit .247 with seven home runs, 56 RBIs. 19 doubles and two triples. At the time of his promotion, Bierfeldt led the South Atlantic League in RBIs, was second in doubles and tied for third in extra-base hits (28). A 29th round selection by Baltimore in the 2013 draft, the 24-year-old played his college baseball at Western Connecticut State University and was twice named an All-American. Bierfeldt takes the roster spot of Logan Uxa who was transferred to Delmarva The Keys kickoff the second-half on Thursday night when the team begins a three-game series with the Salem Red Sox at LewisGale Field. Frederick has not announced its starter, while right- hander Aaron Wilkerson (3-0, 1.55) throws for the Sox. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. and the broadcast can be heard on 1450 AM The Source and frederickkeys.com. The Keys return home on Sunday, June 28 when the team takes on Wilmington at 6:00 p.m. It is Faith Night at the ballpark, while there is a pre-game concert by the Waterboyz for Jesus.
