June 25, 2015 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Lynchburg Hillcats News Release

LYNCHBURG, Va. - Outfielder Bradley Zimmer has been named to the 2015 Major League Baseball Futures Game roster and will participate in the showcase for the United States team on July 12 at Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati.

Only 50 players from all of Minor League Baseball are selected for the prestigious event. With the rosters being comprised of predominantly Double-A and Triple-A players, only nine participants in the game are currently on Advanced-A rosters and only two hail from the Carolina League. Zimmer joins Potomac Nationals pitcher Lucas Giolito as the only other player from the Carolina League on either roster.

Zimmer is one of 23 Top 100 prospects that will be playing in the Futures Game. The competition will be fierce, as all but two of the 50 players are among the Top 30 prospects in their respective organizations, and six of them are the top overall prospect in their club's farm system. Seventeen different Major League teams will be represented by a player ranked among the top three prospects in their organization, including Zimmer, who is the No. 2 prospect for the Indians according to Baseball America. The 22-year-old is the only member of the Cleveland system participating in the game.

Drafted 21st overall in last year's draft, Zimmer has been dominating many offensive categories at the Advanced-A level this season. Through 65 games, Zimmer's nine home runs are tied for second in the Carolina League. Zimmer is also tied for the league lead with 28 stolen bases, and he has scored 52 runs this season, which is eight more than anyone else on the circuit. Zimmer was named the Indians organization Minor League Player of the Month for April after hitting .357 with four home runs, 10 stolen bases, and OPS of 1.038 in the initial month of the season.

Ken Griffey, Sr. will manage the United States team. He will be coaching against Reds Hall of Famer Tony Perez, who will be the skipper for the World team.

The 2015 Futures Game will be held on Sunday, July 12, at 3 p.m. ET as part of the festivities leading up to the MLB All-Star Game, which will take place Tuesday, July 14, at the home of the Cincinnati Reds. The Futures Game can be seen live on MLB Network and MLB.com, with Matt Vasgersian and Dan Plesac on the call. In addition, SiriusXM Radio will broadcast play-by-play coverage of the event live on MLB Network Radio (XM channel 89; Sirius channel 209).
