
SeaWolves Stumble on Saturday in Richmond

The SeaWolves dropped their fourth straight game to the Richmond Flying Squirrels by a 14-4 final on Saturday night at The Diamond.
The SeaWolves took the lead in the top of the first inning against Richmond starter Trenton Toplikar. Kerry Carpenter singled with one out and moved to third on a two-out Andre Lipcius base hit. Drew Ward singled home Carpenter for a 1-0 lead.
Richmond wasted no time taking the lead right back in the bottom of the first against Erie starter Jesus Rodriguez. Simon Whiteman led off with a walk and Diego Rincones homered for a 2-0 lead. Rodriguez retired the next two hitters before walking David Villar and yielding a double to Vince Fernandez. Will Wilson connected on an opposite-field, three-run home run to give the Squirrels a four-run lead.
Erie got one back in the top of the second when Eric De La Rosa homered to center. The home run was his first at the Double-A level.
Richmond went back ahead by four runs in the second when Brandon Martorano led off with a double and scored on a two-out Mitchell Tolman base hit.
The Squirrels again added to their lead in the fifth against Erie reliever Chance Kirby. Villar led off and homered to center making it 7-2. Fernandez followed with a walk and Luis Basabe walked with one out. Whiteman singled home both baserunners with two outs to make it a seven-run game.
In the top of the seventh, Andre Lipcius doubled and Drew Ward belted his ninth home run of the season to make it a 9-5 game but Erie would get no closer.
Richmond scored two more in the seventh against Cale Coshow and plated three in the eighth off of Ruben Garcia to finish the scoring.
Luis Vizciano (3-2) earned the win for Richmond hurling a scoreless inning in relief.
Rodriguez (2-3) took the loss allowing six runs on five hits with three walks and a strikeout in two innings of work.
Toplikar took a no-decision allowing two runs on six hits with a walk and five strikeouts in four innings.
