SeaWolves Stay Hot and Win Fifth Straight

The SeaWolves took down the Binghamton Mets 7-3 on Friday night at Jerry Uht Park as they equaled their longest winning streak of the season at five straight.

Erie jumped ahead in the first inning against Mets starter Rainy Lara. With runners on the corners, Steven Moya lifted a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Devon Travis for a 1-0 lead.

The 'Wolves extended the lead in the sixth. Travis walked and Moya singled with an out putting runners at first and second. With two outs, Corey Jones drew a walk, loading the bases for Dean Green. A wild pitch with Green hitting scored Travis and on a throwing error by the catcher, Moya scored and Jones moved to third for a 3-0 lead. After a Green walk, Dixon Machado snapped a four-game hitless streak with an RBI double, plating Jones for a 4-0 lead.

The Mets got on the board against Erie starter Kyle Ryan in the top of the seventh. Darrell Ceciliani singled and moved into scoring position on a two-out Xorge Carrillo base knock. Rylan Sandoval walked, loading the bases for the top of the lineup. Kyle Johnson singled home a pair, cutting it to a two-run game at 4-2. Bryan Augenstein came in and retired the final out of the inning.

In the seventh, with Dustin Lawley on first, Ceciliani nearly tied the game off of Augentstein as he connected on an RBI double off the wall in right-center, making it a one-run game at 4-3. Angel Nesbitt retired the final out of the inning, holding the one-run lead.

In the last of the eighth, Erie collected important insurance runs off of reliever Adam Kolarek. Jones and Green connected on back-to-back singles and Machado was hit by a pitch, loading the bases. With one out, Jamie Johnson sent a bouncer to short and on an error, Jones scored an Johnson reached first safely making it 5-3. Travis followed and lifted a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Green for a 6-3 lead. Fields capped the night's scoring with an RBI double down the right field line for a 7-3 Erie advantage.

Nesbitt worked a scoreless ninth, recording his second save.

Ryan (6-8) earned the win allowing two runs on nine hits with a walk and six strikeouts in 6.2 innings of work. It was his first win since June 7.

Erie has won five straight and 10 of the last 12.
