
Fightins lose nail-biter to Rock Cats

Reading Fightin Phils News Release
The Fightin Phils (37-54) came out of the gates with a 4-0 lead but fell late by a score of 6-5 to the New Britain Rock Cats (46-46). Reading out-hit New Britain as they recorded 11 hits had two runners on the bases in the top of the 9th inning.
The Fightin Phils converted with two outs in the top of the 2nd inning as Matt Tolbert hit a two-run double and Albert Cartwright hit a RBI single to take a 3-0 lead off Rock Cats starter Taylor Rogers. Aaron Altherr extended the Fightin Phils lead to 4-0 in the top of the 3rd inning as he hit a two-out RBI single off Rogers to score Carlos Alonso.
New Britain cut the Fightins lead in half, 4-2 in the bottom of the 3rd inning off Hoby Milner as Mike Kvasnicka hit a solo home run and Eddie Rosario hit a RBI double to score Aaron Hicks. The Rock Cats added another run off Milner in the bottom of the 4th inning as Kyle Knudson hit a sacrifice fly to score Stephen Wickens.
The Rock Cats took a 6-4 lead off Kyle Simon in the bottom of the 6th inning as he gave up a RBI single to Kyle Knudson and Aaron Hicks. Nefi Ogando entered the game after Simon recorded two outs and allowed a run as he walked a run with the bases loaded.
Reading got a run back in the top of the 8th inning as Kelly Dugan scored a run off a ground-ball double play hit by KC Serna. The Fightins then trailed 6-5 heading into the bottom of the 8th inning.
Taylor Rogers (8-6) earned the win for New Britain. Kyle Simon (2-2) received the loss as he allowed three runs in 2/3 of an inning. Ryan O'Rourke earned his third save as he struck out Kelly Dugan to end the game.
Hoby Milner allowed three runs in five innings of seven hits with one walk and five strikeouts. Nefi Ogando threw 1/3 of an inning and gave up two walks with one strikeout. Matt Hoffman tossed two scoreless innings as he gave up just one hit with two strikeouts.
The Fightin Phils and New Britain Rock Cats play at 1:35 pm tomorrow at New Britain Stadium. Ryan O'Sullivan (2-5, 3.77 ERA) will get the start for Reading.
