Shane Victorino Scheduled to Join Sea Dogs on Rehab Assignment

Portland, Maine - Boston Red Sox outfielder Shane Victorino is expected to join the Portland Sea Dogs on a Major League rehab assignment on Saturday, July 12th when the Sea Dogs host the New Hampshire Fisher Cats in a doubleheader at 5:00 PM. Victorino is expected to start in Game One of the doubleheader.

Victorino, 33 years-old, has been sidelined since May 23rd with a strained right hamstring. In 21 games with the Red Sox this season, Victorino has hit .241 (22-for-91) with five doubles, a triple, a home run, 10 RBI, and 10 runs scored.

The two-time All-Star is in his second season with the Red Sox. Victorino was a crucial piece of the 2013 World Series Champion Boston Red Sox as he hit .294 with 15 home runs and 61 RBI in 122 regular season games.

Victorino is the 34th player to make a Major League rehab assignment appearance with the Portland Sea Dogs and the third this season joining Felix Doubront and Steven Wright.

The two-time World Champion made 14 starts during the Red Sox' post-season run to the World Series title and had 11 hits and 12 RBI, one shy of David Ortiz's team-high 12 RBI. Victorino drove in the game winning run in each of the three postseason clinchers, the most by a player in any single postseason.

In parts of 11 Big League seasons the Wailuku, Hawaii native has compiled a .246 batting average with 106 home runs and 480 runs batted in. He won the 2008 World Series title with the Philadelphia Phillies, was selected for the All-Star Game in both 2008 and 2011, and has earned four Rawlings Gold Glove awards throughout his career.
