Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

ERIE, PA - The Binghamton Mets hammered out 16 hits, with every starter collecting at least one, to defeat the Erie SeaWolves, 9-3, on Saturday night at Jerry Uht Park. The B-Mets went 6-for-11 with runners in scoring position and had five different players record multiple hits in the series-evening victory. Jayce Boyd led the charge, highlighting a three-RBI game with his fourth home run of the season.

Binghamton grabbed the lead in a flash in the third inning against Ryan Robowski. With one out, Kai Gronauer ripped a line drive off the arena beyond the left-field wall, clearing the yellow stripe for his first home run of the season with the B-Mets. The B-Mets completed the inning with three straight two-out singles, capped by Dustin Lawley's RBI knock up the middle.

The B-Mets showcased their power again in the fourth. Boyd deposited a 1-0 pitch from Robowski onto the roof of the arena beyond the left-field wall. The homer, Boyd's first since June 7, kicked Binghamton's lead to three.

After retiring 11 of the first 12 batters he faced, B-Mets starter Cory Mazzoni opened the door for a SeaWolves comeback with back-to-back two-out walks in the fourth. Corey Jones made the righty pay by banging a two-run double off the right-field wall, cutting Binghamton's lead to one.

The one-run lead disappeared in the fifth. Francisco Martinez started the frame by lining a single off Mazzoni's mitt and swiped second during the next at-bat. Marcus Lemon brought him home by lining a two-out single down the right-field line, tying the game at three.

Binghamton responded with another string of hits against reliever Slade Smith in the sixth. Following a pair of two-out singles, Travis Taijeron pulled a one-out single into left, plating Ceciliani with the go-ahead run.

Mazzoni settled down after his bumpy stretch in the fourth and fifth and capped his night with two shutout innings. The righty worked around a leadoff single in a scoreless sixth and struck out two in a blank seventh.

Binghamton turned a one-run game into a blowout by hanging five runs on reliever Jose Valdez in the ninth. The B-Mets sent eight men to the plate and collected five hits against the righty, highlighted by a two-run single by Boyd.

Mazzoni (2-0) struck out nine while allowing three runs on five hits over seven innings to pick up the win. Smith (2-3) allowed one run over three innings of relief in the loss. Jack Leathersich and Cody Satterwhite each tossed scoreless innings to close Binghamton's pitching tab.

The B-Mets (56-38) continue their four-game series against the SeaWolves on Sunday afternoon at 1:35 PM. RHP Hansel Robles gets the nod for the B-Mets against RHP Warwick Saupold. The Horizons Federal Credit Union Pregame Show, starting at 1:20 PM, can be heard on News Radio 1290 WNBF and on the Binghamton Mets Baseball Network via the TuneIn App.
