The SeaWolves first extra innings game of the season ended with a heartbreaking 7-6 loss to the Richmond Flying Squirrels in a 13-inning, six-plus hour affair at The Diamond.

The teams were scoreless after three innings when the skies opened up and forced an 1:26 delay in the top of the fourth.

After the delay, with Jason Krizan and Engenio Suarez on base, Aaron Westlake singled home a run for a 1-0 lead. The run was charged to the starter Kyle Crick who did not return after the delay.

Richmond tied the game in the sixth. Mario Lisson walked against reliever Ryan Robowski. Robowski retired the subsequent two hitters and was lifted for Slade Smith who gave up an RBI triple to Devin Harris, tying the game.

Erie regained the lead in the top of the seventh. Dean Green was hit by a pitch with one out and he scored on a Steven Moya double making it 2-1. The RBI for Moya was his ninth in the last four games.

In the bottom of the seventh, Kelby Tomlinson and Tyler Graham each singled off of Smith and stole a base to get into scoring position. Matt Duffy singled home both baserunners for a 3-2 Richmond lead. Jarrett Parker followed with his second home run of the series to make it 4-2. The Squirrels would add one more in the seventh on an error to take a three-run lead.

The SeaWolves rallied in the ninth against reliever Derek Law. Green led off with a single but was erased at second on a fielder's choice off the bat of Moya. Francisco Martinez then walked and Corey Jones was hit by a pitch loading the bases for Jamie Johnson. Johnson grounded out to second, plating Moya making it 5-3. With two outs and a 2-2 count, Krizan singled up the middle to plate the tying runs.

The game remained tied until the top of the 13th. Moya singled with one out and stole second. With two outs, Corey Jones singled home Moya giving Erie a 6-5 lead.

The Squirrels won the game in the last of the 13th against Erie reliever Nick Avila. Duffy led off with a double putting the tying run in scoring position. With one out, Avila walked Lisson and hit Angel Villalona loading the bases. Myles Schroder singled to right, plating two and winning the game for Richmond.
