
Cabrera Has Big Game in Bowie

The SeaWolves let a late lead slip away as the dropped the series opener to the Bowie Baysox 6-5 at Prince George's Stadium on Friday night.
Erie jumped ahead in the top of the fourth against Bowie starter Tim Berry. Eugenio Suarez led off and walked. With Aaron Westlake batting, Suarez stole second giving the 'Wolves a runner in scoring position. With one out, Suarez stole third and scored on a throwing error for a 1-0 lead. Wade Gaynor then singled with one out and was doubled home by Ramon Cabrera for a 2-0 lead.
Bowie got one in the last of the fourth against Erie starter Wilsen Palacios. Christian Walker walked with one out and moved to third on a two-out Chih-Hsien Chiang double. Walker scored on a wild pitch making it 2-1.
In the fifth, Brian Ward led off with a double and moved to third on a Johnny Ruettiger sacrifice bunt. Buck Britton singled home Ward, tying the game.
The SeaWolves regained the lead in the sixth. Suarez led off with a single and with one out, Gaynor blasted a home run to center for a 4-2 lead. The home run for Gaynor was his third in the last two games.
The Erie lead held until the bottom of the seventh. Palacios walked Ward to start the frame and was lifted for Will Startup. Ruettiger blooped a single down the left field line putting two on for Britton. Britton sacrificed the runners into scoring position. Niuman Romero singled home the games tying runs. With two outs, Dariel Alvarez blasted a go-ahead home run to left for Bowie's first lead of the night at 6-4.
In the top of the ninth, Cabrera led off and homered down the right field line off of reliever Oliver Drake making it 6-5. It was the fourth hit of the night for Cabrera and his first home run since May 12 of last season in Indianapolis while playing for Toledo. Drake went on to retire the side following the Cabrera home run to preserve the Bowie win.
Palacios took the no-decision allowing three runs on seven hits with two walks and three strikeouts in a season-high six innings pitched.
Startup (0-1) took the loss in relief allowing three runs on three hits in two innings.
