LAST GAME: Kevin Plawecki threw out three attempted base stealers and chipped in with an RBI double to lead the Binghamton Mets to a 2-1 victory over the Harrisburg Senators on Sunday afternoon at NYSEG Stadium. Tyler Pill struck out a season-high seven over 5.2 shutout innings to secure Binghamton's fifth series win of the season. Darrell Ceciliani pushed home a much-needed insurance run in the sixth with a sac fly. Chasen Bradfordstranded two in a scoreless ninth inning, earning his sixth save of the season. Pill collected his first win of the year. Sens starter AJ Coleallowed one run over 4.2 innings in the loss.
BINGHAMTON STARTER: RHP Hansel Robles makes his sixth start of the season and first career against the Curve. Robles suffered his first Double-A loss in his most recent start against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on May 6. He allowed a season-high five runs on seven hits over 5.1 innings. He walked one and struck out four. Signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Mets in August 2008, Robles is in his sixth year in the organization.
ALTOONA STARTER: LHP Zack Dodson takes the mound for his fourth start of the season and first since April 14. He was activated from the disabled list prior to tonight's game. Dodson spent most of the 2013 season with Bradenton (High-A). The southpaw went 6-8 with a 4.40 ERA in 21 games (20 starts). His only appearance with Altoona came against the B-Mets in the second game of a doubleheader on August 6, 2013. Dodson was picked by the Pirates in the 4th round of the 2009 draft out of Medina Valley HS (TX).
PLAWECKI STILL RED HOT: B-Mets catcher Kevin Plawecki has hit safely in each of his last eight games. He has hit .406 (13-for-32) during the stretch with four doubles, a home run, five RBI and five multiple-hit games. He has raised his batting average by 57 percentage points.
LEAGUE HONORS PEAVEY: B-Mets starter Greg Peavey was named the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week yesterday. The righty earned the honors after tossing a nine-inning, complete-game shutout against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on May 7. Peavey allowed just two hits while preventing any Fisher Cats from reaching second base. He retired the final 13 batters he faced. It was the 12th nine-inning two-hitter in B-Mets franchise history. It was the second time Peavey has been recognized for the award in his Double-A career.
GETTING HOTTER: Following a four-game losing streak, their longest skid since July 2012, the B-Mets have won four of their last five games. The B-Mets pitching staff has compiled a 2.20 ERA during the stretch.
LEAGUE LEADERS: Wilfredo Tovar ranks eighth in the league with a .337 batting average. Matt Reynolds sits tenth hitting .330. Matt Clark is tied for third with seven home runs.
AGAINST THE CURVE: The B-Mets went 10-5 against the Curve in 2013, including a five-game winning streak in the first half of the season. Binghamton went 6-3 against the Curve at NYSEG Stadium.
SCOUTING THE CURVE: The Curve make their only visit to the Southern Tier in 2014 after dropping three of four in Akron. The team has gone just 3-9 in their last twelve games.
PITCHING & DEFENSE: The Curve pitching staff has issued the most walks (137) and collected the fewest strikeouts (218) out of any team in the league. The bullpen has combined for seven blown saves and the defense has committed a league-leading total of 49 errors.
NEXT GAME PREVIEW: The B-Mets continue their three-game series against the Curve on Wednesday night at 6:35 PM. RHP Greg Peavey takes the mound against LHP Joely Rodriguez.
