Altoona Curve News Release

CURVE, PA. - The SeaWolves mysterious hold over the Altoona Curve continued on Friday night as the SeaWolves defeated the Curve, 3-0, at Blair County Ballpark. It is the first time this season that the Curve have been kept off the scoreboard.

Erie struck in the first against Curve starter Justin Wilson (1-2) with two away when Cesar Nicolas doubled inside the right-field line to score Wilkin Ramirez from first and open up a, 1-0, lead over Altoona.

The one run would be the only run Wilson surrendered as he settled in nicely over his final five innings of work. The Anaheim, Calif. native gave up just one hit the rest of the way and went on to set down the final 10 men he faced in the game and wound up striking out a season-high seven.

Altoona's best scoring opportunity came in the sixth when they would chase SeaWolves starter Duane Below (2-3) after Josh Harrison reached with a one-out single and Gorkys Hernandez reached on an error. Ramon Garcia was called in from the bullpen with two on and one out and struck out Jordy Mercer for the second out of the inning.

Matt Hague then came to the plate and singled to third to load the bases for Jim Negrych, who grounded out to first to end the inning and the threat.

The 'Wolves plated two runs in the ninth off reliever Michael Dubee, who came on after Corey Hamman put a couple men on via a walk and a hit batter. It was Hamman's first appearance this season with the Curve.

Mercer and Alex Presley each had two hits for Altoona.

Erie (15-13) and Altoona (18-9) will pick it back up on Saturday at 5 p.m. at Blair County Ballpark. RHP Thad Weber (1-2, 3.38) is scheduled to throw for the SeaWolves while RHP Tim Alderson (2-0, 5.84) will pitch for the Curve.

Postgame fireworks will light up the sky on Saturday night following the conclusion of the Curve game. It's also EMS Appreciation Night and a Community Collection Day at Blair County Ballpark. Fans are asked to bring their old cell phones to the ballpark and donate them to Family Services, Inc. as they enter the gates. Kids 14 & under can run the bases after the game.
