Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
Scott Seabol mashed a two-run home run off the scoreboard in left-centerfield, helping push a three-run sixth inning that lifted the Albuquerque Isotopes (8-9) to a 7-4 victory over the New Orleans Zephyrs (10-8) on a gorgeous Sunday afternoon at Isotopes Park.
Seabol's blast came in a sixth inning that saw the âTopes turn a 4-4 tie into a 7-4 advantage. The Isotopes bullpen was stellar-combining to hold the Z's to no runs and two hits over the final five innings-and Albuquerque took its second-straight game of the series.
Namely out of the bullpen, âTopes reliever Rich Dorman (1-0) provided a huge boost. Dorman entered the game in the fifth inning and went on to scatter just two hits with three strikeouts over the next 3.2 frames. Nate Field earned a win last night, then returned today to complete his third save in 1.1 spotless innings of work. Nic Ungs, making a spot start in place of Wes Obermueller who was called to the Big Leagues, worked four innings. Ungs surrendered four runs on five hits with two strikeouts and two walks.
The loss fell on former Isotopes southpaw Jason Vargas (2-1). Vargas allowed seven runs-six earned-on seven hits through 5.2 innings. The left-hander walked two and struck out six.
Albuquerque was first to jump on the scoreboard, plating two runs in the second inning on RBIs for John Baker and Josh Labandeira. After New Orleans cut their deficit to one in the third, Albuquerque responded with a run of its own in the home half. Robert Andino doubled, stole third and would come around to score on a run-scoring single by Chad Hermansen to make the score 3-1.
The Z's broke through in the fourth, using a two-run double by Ricky Ledee and an RBI double by Sandy Alomar, Jr. to go ahead 4-3. The Isotopes answered again, though, tying the game in the bottom half of the fourth on a run-scoring Baker groundout. The game remained tied until the sixth, when Seabol cracked a two-run homer and Labandeira followed with a run-scoring double.
Hermansen and Seabol each recorded two hits on the afternoon, while Seabol, Baker and Labandeira-the 6-7-8 hitters in the âTopes lineup-all drove in two runs.
New Orleans totaled just seven hits on the day, while no batter had more than one hit.
The âTopes and Z's hit the third leg of the series on Monday night. Left-hander Paul Mildren (1-1, 3.77) will toe the slab for Albuquerque, while New Orleans will send righty Jorge Sosa (2-0, 0.95). First pitch is set for 6:35 PM at Isotopes Park. Monday is 50-Cent Hot Dog Night at the ballpark.
