Road Woes Continue For Beavers

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Sean Barker hit a three-run homer, and Jayson Nix had three hits and scored three times as the Colorado Springs Sky Sox beat the Portland Beavers 6-3 Sunday at Security Service Field.

Four Sky Sox pitchers combined to hold Portland to just two hits, striking out 12 and walking seven.

Byung-Hyun Kim fanned six and gave up one run in 3 2/3 innings in a major league rehab start for Colorado Springs, which handed the Beavers their fifth straight road loss.

Portland (7-11) dropped to 2-8 on the road and is averaging fewer than three runs and seven hits per contest away from PGE Park this season.

Jorge De Paula (1-0) walked four and gave up no hits and two unearned runs in three innings of relief for the win. Mike Gallo notched his first save of the year.

Barker's three-run homer in the first off Jared Wells gave the Sky Sox (5-10) the early lead. It was Barker's second home run in two games against the Beavers.

Wells fell to 0-3 after giving up six runs, eight hits and three walks in 5 2/3 innings.

Jack Cust had one of Portland's two hits, drew two walks and scored a run as he extended his team-best hitting streak to 10 games; he is batting .429 (15-for-35) during the current streak.

Nix reached on a ground-rule double to lead off the bottom of the third and scored when Ian Stewart singled to center two batters later. Wells later issued an intentional walk to Joe Koshansky to load the bases and hit Alvin Colina with a pitch to force in another run.

Colorado Springs pushed its lead to 6-1 in the fourth with an RBI single by Seth Smith that scored Nix.

The Beavers scored two unearned runs in the seventh as Luis Cruz and Craig Stansberry scored when Vincent Sinisi reached on an error.

The series continues Monday night at 5:05 p.m. (Pacific).

NOTES: Josh Howard logged Portland's additional hit, his second at the Triple-A level ... Portland is batting .200 on the road this season ... Cust failed to drive in a run for the first time in six games ... Wells has lost six straight decisions with the Beavers dating back to the 2006 season ... the Beavers have been outscored 31-8 during their current five-game road-losing streak.
