Driskill Not Enough to Save Express
April 22, 2007 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK - Travis Driskill allowed one run over four innings in his longest outing for Round Rock since last year, but his efforts couldn't help the Express dig out of an early 6-2 hole.
Fernando Nieve allowed six runs, three of them earned, on five hits, five walks and two strikeouts over three innings in an eventual 7-2 loss to Oklahoma at The Dell Diamond. Round Rock dropped to 9-9 on the season, remaining in second place behind New Orleans in the Pacific Coast League American Southern Division.
Driskill, primarily a middle and late reliever, hadn't worked four innings since April 18, 2006 - a span of 50 appearances.
The two teams meet again Monday at 7:05 p.m. at The Dell Diamond for Game 3 of the current four-game series. That game, as well as all other Express games, can be heard on 1560 AM or by logging on to www.rrexpress.com.
After taking a 1-0 lead in the first, Oklahoma put three more across in the second inning. Desi Relaford reached on an error by Express shortstop Jesse Garcia and Drew Meyer worked a two-out walk before Freddy Guzman singled to right field.
Nieve then walked in a run and gave up a two-run single to Victor Diaz. Nieve got a little help in the bottom of the inning thanks to Hunter Pence's run-scoring double and Eric Munson's sacrificed fly, but Oklahoma responded with two more in the third, forcing Nieve from the game in his shortest outing of the season.
Meanwhile, RedHawks' starter John Koronka was nearly unhittable, mixing four hits with three walks and four strikeouts over seven innings. After allowing two runs in the third, Koronka didn't give up another hit until Barry Wesson's one-out single in the seventh.
Former Express starter Ezequiel Astacio closed the game out for Oklahoma, allowing a Munson double in the ninth and nothing more over the final two innings.
