Oklahoma City Comets News Release

The RedHawks staged their biggest comeback of the season on Saturday, rallying from a 5-0 deficit in the seventh inning to beat Round Rock 6-5 in the series opener at The Dell Diamond. Oklahoma has won each of its five series openers and improves to 7-9, snapping a three-game losing streak. Round Rock has dropped three in a row and falls to 9-8.

The Express built a 5-0 lead off starter Francisco Cruceta through his 5.1 innings of work and took that lead into the seventh. With reliever Miguel Asencio on the mound, Victor Diaz belted a two-run double to right-center followed by a Jason Botts two-run homer, his first home run of the season, putting the Hawks to within a run at 5-4.

A sacrifice fly by Diaz in the eighth tied the score and set the stage for the ninth inning. Marlon Byrd led off with a double, followed one out later by an intentional walk to Drew Meyer and a single up the middle by Guillermo Quiroz to push across the eventual winning run.

Frank Francisco (1-0) picked up the win. Francisco struck out the side in the eighth, but the ninth was a roller coaster. Francisco hit Josh Anderson to begin the inning, then walked Eric Bruntlett and Hunter Pence to load the bases. But Francisco escaped when Brooks Conrad popped out and Eric Munson and Danny Klassen struck out to end the game. Round Rock reliever Paul Estrada (1-1) allowed the go-ahead run to take the loss.

Oklahoma out-hit Round Rock 11-10 in a 3:25 game that featured a combined 13 walks.

Game two is Sunday afternoon at 2:05 featuring Oklahoma lefthander John Koronka vs. Round Rock righthander Fernando Nieve.
