
Sea Dogs' Winning Streak Snapped in 5-1 Loss to Somerset

Portland, Maine - Christian Koss had a 2-for-4 night and made a home run robbing catch as the Portland Sea Dogs (11-3, 41-42) had their eight-game winning streak snapped with a 5-1 loss to the Somerset Patriots (7-7, 51-32) at Hadlock Field on Wednesday.
Portland opened up the scoring in the bottom of the first inning against Somerset starter Will Warren. Elih Marrero worked a one-out walk, while Christian Koss singled and advanced to second on the throw, putting runners at second and third. Izzy Wilson lifted a sacrifice fly to center, driving in Marrero, giving the Sea Dogs a 1-0 lead.
The Patriots responded in the top of the second inning against Portland starter Brett Kennedy. Jeisson Rosario led off with a base hit and took second on a wild pitch by Kennedy. Jesus Bastidas grounded out, moving Rosario to third. Mickey Gasper doubled to the left-center gap, plating Rosario, tying the game 1-1.
Somerset took their first lead of the game in the top of the seventh inning with Kennedy still on the mound. Gasper singled and Chad Bell walked, chasing Kennedy out of the game. Portland reliever Jacob Wallace entered in his place. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch from Wallace, and in the next at-bat, Gasper scored on a second wild pitch, giving the Patriots a 2-1 lead.
Two more runs came around to score in the top of the eighth inning with Wallace still on the mound. Brandon Lockridge singled, while Rosario and Bastidas walked to load the bases. Gasper pushed in a run with a bases-loaded walk, making it a 3-1 lead for Somerset. Bell brought in the second run of the inning with a sacrifice fly, increasing their advantage to 4-1. The Patriots tallied one more run in the top of the ninth on a sacrifice fly from Bastidas, adding to their lead, 5-1. The Sea Dogs went down in order in the bottom of the ninth, snapping their eight-game winning streak with a 5-1 loss.
Warren (5-2, 2.20 ERA) tossed 7.0 innings, allowing one run on five hits, walking two, and striking out five in his fifth win of the year. Kennedy (2-5, 4.26 ERA) worked through 6.0 innings, giving up two runs on seven hits, walking two, and striking out five in his fifth loss of the season.
The Sea Dogs and Patriots play the third game of a six-game series on Thursday with a 12:00 PM first pitch at Hadlock Field. Portland sends LHP Jay Groome (3-4, 3.52 ERA) to the mound against Somerset RHP Luis Medina (2-3, 3.67 ERA).
