WILSON POWERS SEA DOGS TO EIGHTH STRAIGHT WIN - After a 2:35 delay, the Portland Sea Dogs beat the Somerset Patriots 10-8 last night in walk-off fashion. In the first inning, Elijah Dunham clubbed a two-run homer giving Somerset a 2-0 lead. In the second, Izzy Wilson led off with a triple. One out later, David Hamilton plated him with a groundout to first, cutting into the Patriots lead, 2-1. Despite Portland leading 8-6 after the first two outs in the top of the ninth, the Patriots were able to tie the game. Jeisson Rosario singled to right and Jesus Bastidas doubled to left, putting runners on second and third. Blake Perkins lined a double to left, scoring both runners, tying the game 8-8. In the bottom of the ninth inning, Christian Koss worked a two-out walk to get things started. Wilson stepped up to the plate and launched his second home run of the night, sending the Sea Dogs home with a walk-off victory 10-8, extending their win streak to eight games.
EASTERN LEAGUE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Izzy Wilson has been named the Eastern League Player of the Week for the week of July 4-10. Wilson appeared in five games during the week where he hit .474 (9-for-19) with two doubles, a triple, a home run, seven runs scored, and eight RBI. He led the league in average (.474), Slugging % (.842), and OPS (1.366). Wilson is second Sea Dogs' player to honor the honor this season joining Pedro Castellanos who earned the accolade for the week of June 13-19. Additionally, three Sea Dogs' pitchers have taken home Eastern League Pitcher of the Week honors this season: Chris Murphy (June 20-26), Victor Santos (May 30-June 5), and Brayan Bello (May 2-8
HAMILTON KEEPS HITTING - Hamilton has enjoyed a great start to July, but most recently, he has mounted a six-game hitting streak. Going back to July 3, Hamilton is 7-for-24 (.292) with two home runs, one double, three RBI, four walks, and three strikeouts. He has also been extremely productive once getting on base during this streak. He has stolen two bases, raising his season total to 31, and has made his way around to score 9 runs over the streak.
WHERE DO WE STAND - The Sea Dogs currently have the best record in the second half in the Eastern League. Portland is 11-2 since the start of the second half and are currently in first place in the Northeast Division of the Eastern League. The Reading Fightin Phils are in second place in the division, 3.0 games behind Portland. The Erie SeaWolves are in first place in the Southwest Division with an 8-4 record.
THIS DAY IN SEA DOGS HISTORY - July 13, 2005 - Portland plays host to the 2005 All-Star Game. Sea Dog Kenny Perez doubled home the go-ahead runs in the bottom of the 8th inning to give the Northern Stars a 9-6 win over the Southern Stars. Sea Dog Hanley Ramirez went 2-3 in the contest, with two stolen bases and a run scored.
PITCHING MATCHUP - RHP Brett Kennedy takes the mound tonight for the Portland Sea Dogs. He last pitched July 7th at Binghamton and tossed 6.0 shutout innings allowing two walks. He struck out four. Kennedy faced the Patriots in his first outing in Red Sox organization. came out of the bullpen and fired 3.0 shutout innings allowing one hit.
