New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
MANCHESTER, N.H. - The Toronto Blue Jays announced Wednesday that former New Hampshire Fisher Cats catcher and manager John Schneider will serve as interim manager for the remainder of the 2022 Major League Baseball season.
Schneider managed the Fisher Cats to the 2018 Eastern League Championship, compiling a 76-62 record in the regular season. It was the team's third league title since moving to New Hampshire in 2004. Schneider was named Eastern League Manager of the Year following the season. At 38 years old, he was the youngest manager in Fisher Cats history.
The Princeton, N.J., native spent six seasons as a catcher in the Blue Jays organization. Schneider played in 63 games with the Fisher Cats from 2006 to 2007. In 2008, he began managing in Toronto's minor league system. Schneider led Vancouver to the 2011 Northwest League title and Dunedin to its first-ever Florida State League championship in 2017. He joined Toronto's major league coaching staff in 2019 and was promoted to bench coach prior to this season.
Schneider replaces Charlie Montoyo as the Blue Jays manager and inherits an active roster that features six members of the 2018 Fisher Cats championship team: Bo Bichette, Cavan Biggio, Santiago Espinal, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Lourdes Gurriel Jr., and Jordan Romano.
The Fisher Cats return home for a three-game series against the Portland Sea Dogs (Boston Red Sox affiliate) beginning next Friday, July 22. Tickets for all remaining home games at Delta Dental Stadium are available at NHFisherCats.com, via email at info@nhfishercats.com, by phone at (603) 641-2005, or in-person at the Fisher Cats box office on 1 Line Drive in Manchester.
