Rijo Homers Twice as R-Phils Shut Out Fisher Cats

Reading Fightin Phils News Release
The Reading Fightin Phils blanked the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Blue Jays) for the second-straight game. The Fightins used 13 strikeouts from a combined five pitchers and three home runs to knock off the visitors 7-0. That is 18 consecutive scoreless innings pitched by the staff.
Wendell Rijo turned in his second two-homer performance in the last week while Jonathan Guzman added a solo shot. Rijo had three hits and 6 RBIs on Wednesday while Logan O'Hoppe and Jhailyn Ortiz each had two hits apiece.
O'Hoppe and Ortiz led off the bottom of the third inning with singles. Rijo stepped to the plate and hammered a three-run shot to left field.
The Fisher Cats got a runner aboard with no outs in the top of the fifth frame. Rafael Lantigua popped a bunted ball foul. O'Hoppe got the out on the popup and doubled up the Fisher Cats by throwing Ryan Gold out at first. The R-Phils made it out of the inning without giving up a run. The opposing team didn't get a hit after the fourth inning and a runner on after the fifth.
Guzman blasted a solo home run to center field to lead off the bottom half, giving the Fightins a 4-0 lead
The Fightins got two runners on in both the sixth and seventh innings but couldn't bring them home.
Reading capitalized with two runners on base in the bottom of the eighth. Rijo connected for an opposite field home run, his second three-run long ball of the night.
Mike Adams made the first start of his professional career on Wednesday. He pitched two scoreless innings, gave up two hits and struck out one.
Erik Miller made his first appearance since coming off the developmental list. He gave no runs and one hit while striking out two.
Billy Sullivan pitched the next two innings. He allowed two hits and finished with two strikeouts.
Matt Seelinger picked up the win in Wednesday's contest. He came in for the sixth and seventh frames, struck out three and didn't allow a runner to reach.
Braden Zarbnisky pitched a perfect final two frames and struck out five, including all three batters he faced in the eighth.
The Fightins will play at FirstEnergy Stadium next on July 14 at 7:00 PM.
