
Cope, Doyle & Datres Lead Yard Goats Past Senators

Hartford, Conn- Daniel Cope cracked a go-ahead two-run single, Brenton Doyle launched his 12th home run of the season, and Kyle Datres added three hits, as the Hartford Yard Goats beat the Harrisburg Senators 6-2 on Wednesday night at Dunkin' Donuts Park. Doyle and Datres combined for five of Hartford's eight hits, and the Yard Goats bullpen tossed four scoreless innings. Hartford improved to 7-7 and split the series' first two games against Harrisburg.
Harrisburg opened the scoring with a run in the top of the first inning off Hartford's starter Michael Baird. The Senators were kept in check in the following frames by the Yard Goats right-hander, who spun five innings of two-run ball while striking out four.
Hartford stormed back with three runs in the bottom of the second off Harrisburg's starter Jake Irvin. Kyle Datres lined an RBI single to center field, scoring Grant Lavigne. After Datres stole second, Daniel Cope followed with a two-run single to put the Yard Goats in front 3-1. Harrisburg scored once in the top of the fourth. Hartford responded in the bottom of the frame on a solo blast by Brenton Doyle, his 12th homer of the season, putting the Yard Goats up 4-2.
Hartford added to its lead in the bottom of the eighth. With a runner on third and one out, Doyle hit a sac fly to right to extend the Yard Goats' lead. Datres lined another RBI single to center, scoring another run, his third hit of the game to make the score 6-2.
The Hartford bullpen was spotless the rest of the way, allowing just two hits over the final four frames. Riley Pint fired a scoreless sixth inning striking out two. Fineas Del Bonta-Smith followed with one and two-thirds innings allowing no hits. PJ Poulin finished off the Senators with one and one-third scoreless, inducing a double play to end the game.
The Yard Goats continue their homestand against the Nationals affiliate, the Harrisburg Senators, on Thursday night at 7:05. LHP Nick Bush will start for the Yard Goats and former UConn LHP Tim Cate will start for the Senators. The two squads will face off four more times, concluding on Sunday afternoon.
