Sea Dogs Walk All Over The Rock Cats, Take Opener 10-6

(Portland, ME) - The Sea Dogs (3-2) played their longest game of the season (3 hours and 22 minutes), collecting 9 hits and 9 walks to beat the New Britain Rock Cats (1-4), 10-6 in the series opener on Monday night at Hadlock Field. The Rock Cats committed all 5 of their errors in the final two innings, leading to 2 unearned runs.

RHP Chris Province allowed a tying, 2-run homer to RF Juan Portes in the sixth inning but earned his second win in as many appearances. The righty relieved LHP Felix Doubront in the fifth inning and yielded three hits and two runs over 2.2 IP. Doubront, who made his Double-A debut, fanned seven over 4.1 IP on two hits and just two runs. RHP Chad Rhoades picked up his first save of the year, allowing three hits and two runs in 2 IP.

Rock Cats righty Rob Delaney took the loss, giving up three runs (two earned) in .2 IP.

Portland snapped a 4-4 tie in the bottom of the seventh inning when C Mark Wagner led off the frame with a solo-blast over the Maine Monster. With two outs, 1B Jon Still and 3B Jorge Jimenez provided back-to-back doubles to increase Portland's lead to 7-4. Frank Mata walked four in the eighth inning, allowing three runs and one hit. The Sea Dogs were aided by three New Britain errors, including two on one play.

The Sea Dogs opened the scoring in the fourth inning with four runs off starter Matthew Fox. Jimenez reached on a run-scoring fielder's choice for the game's first run. Reid Engel laced an RBI single with both Lars Anderson and Wagner drawing bases-loaded walks.

Portland and New Britain play game two of their 3-game set on Tuesday night at Hadlock Field. RHP Junichi Tazawa (0-1) takes on RHP Jeff Manship (0-1) - game time is 6:00 PM at Hadlock Field.

Notes...Anderson and Ryan Khoury have reached base safely in all 5 starts...The 'Dogs went 4-for-17 with RISP but had 26 plate appearances in that situation...All nine starters for the 'Dogs reached base safely
