
All Nine Defenders Get Hit In 8-1 Win Over New Hampshire

MANCHESTER, NH- First impressions leave a lasting impression and for the Defenders they couldn't have done it better. Connecticut dominated the New Hampshire Fisher Cats in game one of the best of three series 8-1 Monday night.
The Fisher Cats sent their #9 rated prospect (Baseball America) LHP-Marc Rzepczynski to the hill to face the Defenders and hoped for another dazzling performance like they saw in his double-A debut.
Connecticut's offense came out of the gates red hot as they scored four runs in the first. A four pitch leadoff walk to DH-Antoan Richardson, single to SS-Brian Bocock set the stage for RF-Eddy Martinez-Esteve's 2 RBI double to left-center to give the Defenders a 2-0 lead. Connecticut would add two more with RBI singles by 1B-Brett Pill and CF-Mike Mooney, making it a 4-0 lead.
The Defenders added another run in the third after another leadoff walk to LF-Bobby Felmy and a 2B-Sharlon Scoop RBI single to drove him in, Connecticut held a 5-0 advantage.
Defenders starter RHP-Henry Sosa made his double-A debut and made only one mistake in four innings of work giving up a homerun to the Fisher Cats 1B-David Cooper on the first pitch of the fourth and finished only allowing three hits, one walk, while striking out four.
Antoan Richardson led the sixth of with a leadoff double inside the third base bag, stole third and scored on a Martinez-Esteve sacrifice fly to left. A C-Jackson Williams leadoff single in the eighth followed by a Richardson triple, his first of the year drove the score to 8-1 Defenders. Every Defenders batter delivered at least one hit in the game.
The Fisher Cats Rzepcynski (1-1) suffered his first loss of the season giving up five earned runs off of seven hits, walked four, and struck out four in just three innings of work. The Defenders LHP-Jesse English (1-0) picked up his first win of the season hurling three scoreless innings while giving up just two hits, two walks and striking out three.
Connecticut and New Hampshire will meet again tomorrow night at MerchantsAuto.com Stadium for game 2 of 3. The Defenders send RHP-Daryl Maday (0-0) to face the Fisher Cats RHP- Rei Gonzalez (1-0).
