Chesapeake Baysox News Release
ERIE, PA - The Baysox got five solid innings from Bobby Livingston and Brandon Snyder stayed red-hot, crushing a go ahead home run in the sixth inning as the Baysox bullpen slammed the door on Erie giving the SeaWolves their first defeat of the season, 2-1.
Bobby Livingston regularly got himself out of trouble, giving up only one run on six hits over his five innings of work. He also became the first Baysox starter to avoid the free pass, as he did not issue a walk to SeaWolves hitters on the night.
Livingston found himself in a jam early as Cale Iorg doubled with one out in the bottom of the first inning, but he was able get Brennan Boesch and Casper Wells to ground out to short leaving Iorg stranded. In the bottom of the second, he found himself in trouble again allowing back-to-back singles with two outs putting runners on first and third for Max St. Pierre, who flied out to center field to end the second scoring chance in as many innings.
The Baysox got on the board first in the top half of the third inning, as Paco Figueroa continued to spark the offense at the top of the order by hitting a two out double. Jonathan Tucker followed in similar fashion, smashing a double of his own into left field to score Figueroa and give the Baysox a 1-0 lead.
The SeaWolves threatened again in the bottom of the fourth inning as Casper Wells and Ryan Strieby started the frame with singles. Livingston induced Jeff Frazier into a 6-4-3 double play, but Mike Hollimon reached on an infield single tying the score at one apiece.
Brandon Snyder put Bowie back on top in the top of the sixth. With one out, the Baysox slugger crushed the Luis Marte offering deep over the center field wall for his first home run of the season. Snyder went 3-4 in the game, extending his hitting streak to five games and raising his average to .476 (10-21).
With a 2-1, manager Brad Komminsk went to his bullpen in the form of Ryan Keefer. Keefer struck out Brennan Boesch before walking pinch hitter Delk Scram who came on for an injured Casper Wells. After striking out Ryan Strieby looking, he gave up a single to Jeff Frazier and walked Mike Hollimon to load the bases putting the Baysox in another jam. Keefer responded by striking out Santo De Leon, ending the SeaWolves chance to answer back after losing the lead in the top of the inning.
Josh Perrault came on to replace Keefer in the bottom of the seventh, and gave up two singles to start the inning to Max St. Pierre and Scott Sizemore. Cale Iorg attempted to move the runners over with a bunt, but Guillermo Rodriguez went to third to get the force out, keeping the runners on first and second, and keeping the double play chances alive. On cue, Perrault induced Brennan Boesch to ground into an inning ending double play to get out of the inning and preserve the lead again.
After a scoreless eighth inning by Perrault, Wilfrido Perez came on for the ninth. After striking out Max St. Pierre, he walked Scott Sizemore before putting down Cale Iorg swinging and getting Brennan Boesch to ground out to second, giving the Baysox their 2nd win of the season, handing Erie their first loss in the process.
The two teams will go at it again tomorrow night in the second game of this three game set. Jason Berken (0-1, 9.00 ERA) will take the mound for Bowie going up against Jonah Nickerson (0-0, 9.00 ERA). Game time is 6:35.
