Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
Reading took a shutout into the ninth, but failed to secure it as Carl Loadenthal drove in D.J. Wabick for Binghamton's only run in a 4-1 loss. Reading starter Mike Stutes took a no-hitter into the sixth before fellow pitcher Tim McNab broke up the no-no leading off the sixth.
RHP Ryan Coultas made his first professional start and acquitted himself well up until the fifth inning when he got into trouble and left the bases loaded with one out in the fifth for McNab to take over. Coultas worked 4.1 innings giving up 3 runs in the losing effort. McNab got out of the jam giving up two runs making the lead 3-0 in favor of Reading.
In the sixth, McNab gave up a two-out solo home run to Kevin Nelson. Nelson, the Reading's (3-1) catcher, had a perfect night going 3-3 with 2 runs and finished a triple short of the cycle.
Binghamton (2-2) finally got on the scoreboard in the ninth innings. With RHP Joe Bisenius struggling with his command, Wabick drew a four-pitch walk with one out and moved to second on a wild pitch. Loadenthal came to plate as the B-Mets last chance. Down to his final strike, he hit a single up the middle to drive in Wabick and avoid the shutout. Loadenthal went 1-2 with an RBI and 2 walks.
Binghamton takes on the Phillies in game two of the three-game set tomorrow at 6:35. RHP Fernando Nieve will throw for the B-Mets and will be opposed by RHP Alex Concepcion for Reading. The radio broadcast on Newsradio 1290 WNBF begins at 6:20 with the pre-game show.
Notes: 4.1 innings is the longest outing in Ryan Coultas' career...it was Coultas' first professional start after making 48 appearances previously out of the bullpen...Tim McNab's single in the sixth inning to break up Mike Stute's no-hit bid was just the second hit of his career over 17 at-bats.
