Baysox Announce Opening Night Plans

Bowie, Md. - The Bowie Baysox are set to kick off their 2009 home schedule this Thursday, April 16, at 7:05 p.m. Bowie resident and American Idol star Ju'Not Joyner will sing the national anthem after the Baysox introduce the 2009 team.

Gates will open at Prince George's Stadium open at 6 p.m. The pre-game ceremonies will begin with Prince George's County Council presenting Boy Scout Troop 403 with a proclamation from the Prince George's County Council for community service in Bowie over the last 15 years. The presentation will take place at approximately 6:30 p.m.

After the presentation, the Baysox will introduce the 2009 team. As each player is announced, they will run onto the field through a tunnel of Crofton 10-and-under baseball players.

When the introductions are completed, the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research and Naval Medical Research Command will present the colors as a joint color guard.

After the presentation of colors, 26-year-old Bowie resident and "American Idol" star Ju'Not Joyner will sing the national anthem. Joyner made it onto national television as one of the final 36 contestants before being eliminated.

To round out the pre-game ceremonies, Maryland Lt. Gov. Anthony G. Brown will throw out the ceremonial first pitch. Brown was inaugurated as Maryland's eighth lieutenant governor on Jan. 17, 2007. Prior to becoming lieutenant governor, Brown served as chair for Prince George's Community College Board of Trustees.

The Baysox 17th season as the class AA affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles is underway! The team will play its first game back home at Prince George's Stadium on Thursday, April 16.
