Altoona Curve News Release
ALTOONA, Pa - In an effort to provide a safe, friendly and more efficient atmosphere at Blair County Ballpark, the Altoona Curve are announcing a new policy for purchasing alcohol at Blair County Ballpark.
Fans looking to buy alcohol will be required to obtain a wristband at one of two I.D. stations that will be located at the park. This policy will be in effect for the team's first game on April 16 and remain intact for the duration of the 2009 season.
"We want to ensure that Blair County Ballpark is a venue that remains family friendly," said General Manager Rob Egan. "We believe that this minimally invasive procedure is a necessary step to ensure the safety of our fans while making the experience at our park even more enjoyable."
To ensure that the process will be efficient and hassle free, there will be an I.D. station located on both levels of the ballpark. On the upper concourse, the I.D. station will be located at the main gate, while the lower level concourse station will be located directly behind home plate at the V.I.P. entrance.
After presenting a valid form of identification, a wristband will be issued, which will allow the bearer of it to pur- chase alcohol at the park. Alcohol will not be served to those patrons not wearing a wristband. Also, wristbands are not transferable. Patrons who are caught transferring wristbands will be subject to ejection from the ballpark and/or arrest if caught transferring the wristbands to a minor (21 years of age or under).
Additionally, the Curve reserves the right to re-check an I.D. if they feel a need arises, even if a patron is wearing a wristband.
NEW POST-GAME TRAFFIC PATTERN
The Curve has also announced new post-game traffic patterns.
Fans that are accustomed to parking in the tri-level garage between the ballpark and Lakemont Park will be directed to Park Avenue the following ways:
Level 1: Traffic will be directed to make a RIGHT hand turn onto Park Avenue
Level 2: Traffic will be directed to make a LEFT hand turn onto Park Avenue
Level 3: Traffic will be directed STRAIGHT up 8th street OR directed to make a RIGHT hand turn onto Park Avenue V.I.P. Lot: Traffic will be directed to make a LEFT onto Park Avenue.
The new traffic patterns should result in a more efficient departure for fans immediately after games. After a major- ity of the vehicles have exited the ballpark lots, traffic patterns will go back to normal.
