Sea Dogs Shutout Again, 3-0 to \'Cats

(Portland, ME) - New Hampshire's trio of RHP Randy Boone (7-5), RHP Zach Dials (Hold) and RHP Daniel Farquhar (Save) combined on a 7-hit shutout as the Fisher Cats (46-53) defeated the Portland Sea Dogs(47-51) 3-0 in the series opener on Friday night at Hadlock Field. Portland has not scored in 16 consecutive innings but did not commit an error for the fifth straight game.

RHP Jarod Plummer (7-5) lasted five innings and suffered the loss for Portland meeting 17 between the two clubs. Plummer allowed three hits, two runs, three walks and fanned five in his 16th start of the season and his 4th against the Fisher Cats. Boone fired 7 scoreless frames, yielding four hits, two walks and fanned five for the visitors.

CF Darin Mastroianni led off the game with a double to right-center field and scored on a single by 2B Brad Emaus. The inning ended on a tremendous diving catcher by CF Josh Reddick off the bat of RF Nick Gorneault. LF Adam Calderone gave New Hampshire a 2-0 lead with a run-scoring double in the fourth inning, scoring Gorneault (walked and stole second base). The final run came in the ninth inning off LHP Tommy Hottovy. Calderone began the rally with a bunt-single, advanced to second base on a sac-bunt and scored on SS Jonathan Diaz's single to left field.

Boone did not allow a runner to reach third base and finished his start by retiring 13 of 14 batters. Dials earned his first hold of the season with a scoreless eighth and worked around a lead single from RF Reid Engel. In the ninth inning, Farquhar surrendered two singles (3B Jorge Jimenez and LF Ryan Kalish) but retired 1B Jon Still on a ground out to second base to secure his 8th save of the year.

Portland relievers RHP Chris Province (2 IP) and LHP Dustin Richardson (IP) combined for 3 scoreless frames on 3 walks and 2 strikeouts.

Portland and New Hampshire play game 2 of their series on Saturday night at Hadlock Field beginning at 6:00 PM. RHP Ryne Lawson will face off against RHP Kenny Rodriguez.
