Harrisburg Senators News Release
Harrisburg, PA - The Harrisburg Senators and the City of Harrisburg announced today that the 2010 Eastern League All-Star Game will be held at Metro Bank Park on July 14, 2010. This is the first time the Eastern League All-Star will be on City Island since 1988.
Harrisburg Mayor Stephen R. Reed and Senators president Kevin Kulp made the announcement at a press conference today at Metro Bank Park.
Reed said, "The league commitment for the game to be in Harrisburg next year was one of the things we were able to get accomplished at the winter meetings of baseball held last December."
Kevin Kulp, Harrisburg Senators President, said, "The All-Star game will be the perfect recognition of the new ballpark that will be ready for the 2010 season. The game brings attention and attendance from throughout professional baseball, and the new ballpark will be broadly introduced to the industry as a result."
Joe McEacharn, President of the Eastern League, said, "The opportunity to bring the Eastern League's classic to Harrisburg is a thrill on many levels. These events will be a celebration of Harrisburg's status as a first class baseball town and will highlight the special relationship between the community and its team. While many may view this as the culmination of the efforts to expand and renovate Metro Bank Park, we view this as the beginning of a new long-term public-private partnership with the Harrisburg community. We'd like to thank Mayor Reed and the City of Harrisburg for their unwavering commitment to baseball in Harrisburg and look forward to showing off our best to the city and showing off this city to Eastern League personnel and fans."
The all-star game and extravaganza will be a two-day event, culminating with the game on the evening of the 14th. More details involving the specifics of the non-game events will be coming in the next several months. But suffice it to say that the Senators and the City of Harrisburg are looking forward to showcasing the brand new Metro Bank Park, with phase II of the project set to be completed by opening day 2010, and downtown Harrisburg and all it has to offer.
Though tickets are not yet available for the 2010 All-Star game, tickets are available for any remaining 2009 game online at senatorsbaseball.com or by calling 231-4444.
