Altoona Curve News Release

AKRON, Oh - The Altoona Curve stranded 10 base runners and went 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position in a tightly played game, falling to the Akron Aeros (AA - Cleveland Indians) 2-1 on Friday night at Canal Park in Akron, Ohio.

Left-hander Daniel Moskos suffered the tough-luck loss for the Curve after he tossed 6.0 innings of five-hit baseball permitting just two runs. The Pirates' 2007 first round draft choice was out dueled by Akron 32-year old southpaw Michael Tejera who scattered seven hits over 7.0 innings of work.

After the Aeros jumped out to an early 1-0 edge against Moskos in the bottom of the fifth inning, Altoona would knot the score, 1-1 in the top of the sixth. Brian Friday provided a sacrifice fly which plated Jim Negrych to bring home the only Curve run of the night. The Aeros would immediately respond in the bottom half of the frame bringing home the decisive run when Cleveland's top prospect Carlos Santana homered down the left field line to put Akron up 2-1.

Righty Steven Wright would come on and toss the final two innings allowing just one hit to notch his first save of the season.

The Altoona Curve will look to even the series on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. when they send lefty Kyle Bloom (3-5, 3.39) up against Akron righty Josh Tomlin (9-7, 4.18). Radio coverage begins at 6:50 p.m. on flagship radio station ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Altoona Curve Radio Network.
