
Sea Dogs Shutdown the Fisher Cats, 4-0

(Portland, ME) - Jarod Plummer (7-4) and two Portland relievers combined on a 5-hit shutout as the Sea Dogs (42-44) downed the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (39-48) 4-0 on Friday night in the series opener at Hadlock Field. Portland earned their 3rd team shutout of the season and has won 3 of 4 on their 7-game homestand.
Plummer hurled his 5th quality start of the season, blanking the âCats on four hits, two walks and six strikeouts over six frames. New Hampshire had one runner reach third base off Plummer, who stranded five runners.
LHP Tommy Hottovy earned a hold with 1.1 IP and RHP Bryce Cox recorded his sixth save of the season with 1.2 innings of work on one hit, three walks and a strikeout. Cox loaded the bases in the ninth inning on two walks and a hit batter but SS Luis Sanchez hit into a force play to end the game.
The Sea Dogs scored all four runs with two outs, including 3B Jorge Jimenez's run-scoring single in the third inning off losing pitcher RHP Marty McLeary (1-2). McLeary has lost consecutive starts to Plummer, giving up only 3 runs in 10 IP. Portland scored three runs off RHP Leon Boyd in the eighth inning. 1B Lars Anderson singled with one out and finished the night 3-for-4. With two outs, 2B Ryan Khoury was hit by a pitch and RF Jason Place reached on an infield single. On Place's hit, 3B Al Quintana's throw sailed over the first baseman's head, allowing Anderson to score. C Juan Apodaca walked and CF Josh Reddick put the game away with a 2-run single.
The Sea Dogs continue their 4-game series on Saturday night against the Fisher Cats beginning at 6:00 from Hadlock Field. RHP Blake Maxwell (1-5, 6.41) goes opposite RHP Adrian Martin (0-1, 3.48) in game two of the series. Notes...Place made his Double-A debut for Portland going 1-for-4 while batting in the 8th spot and playing right field...The Sea Dogs had a runner in every inning and stranded 10...Plummer has worked 6 innings in 5 of his last 7 outings...C Juan Apodaca went 1-for-2 and reached base three times with a single and 2 walks.
