Altoona Curve News Release

BOWIE, MD - Dave Krynzel singled home Miguel Abreu to give the Bowie Baysox (AA-Baltimore Orioles) a 2-1 win over the Curve in a 14 inning marathon Friday night in game one of a four game series at Prince George's Stadium.

The single was Krynzel's lone hit of the game in a 1-for-6 performance while Abreu led the Baysox with a 3-for-6 effort at the plate.

Curve starter Mike Crotta had a very strong outing tossing a season high 7.0 innings allowing just one unearned run on five hits with a career high eight strikeouts. Bowie veteran Radhames Liz also tossed 7.0 innings and gave up one run on three hits and struck out eight batters with both pitchers outstanding efforts not factoring in the decision.

Bowie scored an unearned run in the first inning on a Brandon Pinckney single to score Jonathan Tucker. The Curve battled back to tie the game in the fifth inning when shortstop Ray Chang doubled home Miles Durham. Chang, who was called up on July 4th from Lynchburg, has hit in each of the three games he has played in for Altoona this year.

Gorkys Hernandez was the only Curve player with multiple hits going 2-for-6 on the night and extending his current hitting streak to seven games. Pedro Alvarez had a seven game hit streak snapped after an 0-for-5 night with three strikeouts.

Altoona (32-56) and Bowie (49-39) play the second game out of four at Prince George's Stadium Saturday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. with radio coverage beginning at 6:50 p.m. on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Curve Radio Network. Saturday's probable starters are LHP Daniel Moskos (5-7, 4.04) for the Curve and RHP John Mariotti (2-6, 3.19) for the Baysox.
