Sea Dogs Set to Host 8th Annual Mother's Day 5K

Portland, Maine- The Portland Sea Dogs in conjunction with the Maine Track Club, Paradigm Window Solutions, Sportshoe Center, and Harvard Pilgrim HealthCare will be hosting the eighth annual Mother's Day road race on Mother's Day, Sunday, May 11th at 9:15 AM. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Maine Cancer Foundation for Breast Cancer Research. There will also be a Kid's Run beginning at 8:30 AM that is free of charge.

The Portland Sea Dogs Mother's Day 5K is now the largest 5K road race in the State of Maine. From just over 300 runners in 2001 to 1,650 runners last year. A field of 2,000 is expected for the eighth running of the event.

Slugger and his Mom lead the way on the flat 5K course which begins in front of the Portland Expo building, travels down Congress Street, turning down Stevens Avenue, and making a right onto Brighton Avenue back down Deering Avenue into Fitzpatrick Stadium. The race culminates with a unique finish inside Hadlock Field in front of the third base dugout. The course is USAT&F certified and is part of the USAT&F Sanctioned Grand Prix series.

The top overall male and female finishers will receive a trophy, a pair of 2008 Season Tickets for the remainder of the 2008 Sea Dogs season, and throw out the ceremonial first-pitch prior to a future Sea Dogs game. The top three male and female finishers in each age group will also be presented with awards. All participants of the race will receive a complimentary ticket to attend a future Sea Dogs game.

The race is open to the public. Walkers and wheelchair racers are welcome as well. Registration will take place from 8:00 to 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 10th and 7:00 to 9:00 AM on Sunday, May 11th at Hadlock Field.
