Senators Drop Series Finale, 9-5

The Harrisburg Senators fell in the third straight game against the Connecticut Defenders, Thursday at Commerce Bank Park. Connecticut pulled away late in the game to win, 9-5.

Things looked promising early in the game as Roger Bernadina doubled home the first run of the game in the bottom of the 1st inning. The Defenders tied it in the top of the 2nd on a two-out RBI single by Nestor Rojas, but Mike Daniel's two-out RBI single in the bottom of the inning gave the Senators a 2-1 advantage.

The Defenders then scored six unanswered runs to take a 7-2 advantage. Marco Yepez sliced a solo home run over the left-field fence for a solo home run to cut it to 7-3. The Defenders tacked on a pair of runs in the top of the 9th to blow it open to 9-3. Daniel blasted a two-run homer to right in the bottom of the 9th to finish the scoring at 9-5.

Shairon Martis (2-1) took the loss, allowing four runs on nine hits and a walk in five innings of work. He struck out seven. Dave McKae fired six strong innings for Connecticut to move to 3-1.

The loss is the third in a row for the Senators, their longest slide of the season to fall to 20-13. The Defenders upped their record to 17-16.

The Senators hit the road for a three-game series against the Erie SeaWolves at Jerry Uht Park. RHP Marco Estrada (3-2, 3.19ERA) takes the ball for the Senators in a 6:35 PM start.
