
Mathews has single, walk & run in 5-1 loss to Sea Dogs

Portland, ME- Aaron Mathews led off the game with a single and later walked and scored on a wild pitch as the New Hampshire Fisher Cats fell to the Portland Sea Dogs, 5-1, Thursday night at Hadlock Field.
Left-hander Kris Johnson (3-1) pitched five shutout innings to notch the victory. Johnson struck out four and walked three to defeat the Fisher Cats for the second time this season.
New Hampshire (10-22) scored against Sea Dogs' reliever Miguel Ascencio in the top of the seventh inning. With two outs, Mathews (1-for-4, BB, R) walked, moved to second base on an Ascencio wild pitch, advanced to third on another Ascencio wild pitch and scored on Ascencio's third wild pitch of the inning, trimming Portland's lead to 2-1.
The Sea Dogs grabbed a 2-0 lead against right-hander Brandon Magee in the bottom of the first inning. Bubba Bell (2-for-4, 2B, R, BB) singled and Iggy Suarez (2-for-4, 2 R, 2B) doubled off Magee (0-5). Jeff Corsaletti (0-for-3, 2 RBI, 2 BB) scored Bell with a ground out and Suarez scored on a single by Zach Daeges (4-for-5, RBI).
Magee rebounded to go 5.2 innings, allowing only the two runs on six hits. He walked three and struck out three.
Portland (20-13) added three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning against reliever Brandon Magee. Ryan Khoury (1-for-2, R, BB) and Mickey Hall (1-for-4, R) started out with back-to-back singles. Two outs later, Suarez (2-for-4, 2 R, BB) loaded the bases with an infield single. Corsaletti drew a bases-loaded walk and John Otness (1-for-5, 2 RBI) grounded a two-run single to left for a 5-1 lead.
The Fisher Cats return to Merchantsauto.com Stadium to open a four-game series against the New Britain Rock Cats Friday night at 6:35pm. Left-hander Ricky Romero (1-2, 5.51) will make the start against New Britain right-hander Oswaldo Sosa (1-2, 6.39). Radio coverage begins at 6:15pm on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network with Bob Lipman and Mike Murphy.
