Sea Dogs Secure Opening Night Victory

Portland, Maine - David Hamilton tied a franchise record seven RBIs and finished a double shy of the cycle, helping the Portland Sea Dogs (1-0) defeat the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (0-1) on Friday night 11-6 at Hadlock Field in Portland, Maine.

The Fisher Cats got the offense started quickly against Portland's left-handed starter Chris Murphy in the top of the 1st inning. On the first pitch of the game, Tanner Morris hit a solo home run to centerfield. The long ball gave New Hampshire the first lead of the game, 1-0.

In the bottom half of the frame, the Sea Dogs rushed back with four runs of their own against Fisher Cats starter Elvis Luciano. David Hamilton led off with a triple down the rightfield line and Christian Koss reached on an infield single to put runners on the corners. Izzy Wilson drove in Hamilton with a double and advanced Koss to third, tying the game 1-1. Pedro Castellanos lifted a sacrifice fly in the next at-bat, scoring Koss and taking the lead 2-1. Tyler Dearden and Cameron Cannon both followed with RBI doubles, expanding the Sea Dogs lead to 4-1.

The offense continued in the second inning with Luciano still on the mound. Kole Cottam lead off with a double and Hamilton cleared the bases with a two-run homer. The home run was Hamilton's first with the Sea Dogs and pushed the lead to 6-1.

Hamilton continued his excellent night in the bottom of the third inning with Fisher Cats reliever Parker Caracci on the mound. Hudson Potts walked and Cottam was hit by a pitch to reach first. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch, putting them at second and third. One batter later, Hamilton singled in Potts, expanding the Portland lead to 7-1.

In the bottom of the fourth, Portland plated four more runs against New Hampshire reliever Joey Murray. Tyreque Reed singled, while Potts and Cottam both worked walks. Hamilton stepped up to plate and launched a grand slam to right, adding on to the Sea Dogs lead, 11-1.

In the top of the fifth inning the Fisher Cats got back on the board against Portland reliever Zach Bryant. Morris, Zac Cook, and Orelvis Martinez all walked to load the bases. Spencer Horwitz also walked, pushing in a run to bring the score to 11-2. Sebastian Espino scored Cook and Martinez, cutting into the Sea Dogs lead, 11-4. Will Robertson added an RBI single of his own, scoring Horwitz and making the score 11-5. The Fisher Cats added one more run in the eighth inning on a Martinez solo home run, but the Sea Dogs finished strong, locking down an 11-6 victory.

Chase Shugart (1-0) tossed 2.0 innings, giving up one run on one hit and striking out two in his first win of the season. Elvis Luciano (0-1) pitched 2.0 innings, giving up six runs on eight hits while striking out two in a loss.

The Sea Dogs and Fisher Cats play the second of a three-game series on Saturday with a 1:00 PM ET first pitch. The Sea Dogs send RHP Victor Santos to the mound against Fisher Cats RHP Nick Fraze.
