SeaWolves Chill RubberDucks on Opening Night, 2-0
April 8, 2022 - Eastern League (EL)
Akron RubberDucks News Release
Akron left-hander Logan Allen matched a career high with nine strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings, but four Erie pitchers combined for a two-hit shutout, and first baseman Dane Myers added a home run to help the SeaWolves defeat the RubberDucks, 2-0, on Opening Night at UPMC Park Friday night.
Turning Point
The SeaWolves broke a scoreless tie in the second inning, when right fielder Daniel Cabrera hit a one-out double to left field. Designated hitter Quincy Nieporte hit an RBI double to left-center field for a 1-0 Erie lead.
Mound Presence
Allen yielded the second-inning doubles and a fifth-inning solo home run to Myers for the only Erie runs. He struck out seven batters in the first three innings, and worked out of a two-runner, no-out jam in the fourth without a run scoring. He still took his first professional loss after going 9-0 in 2021. Right-hander Kevin Kelly retired all five batters (four on strikes) in his 1 2/3-inning Double-A debut. Right-hander Manuel Alvarez worked out of a bases loaded jam to complete a scoreless inning, and right-hander Nick Gallagher pitched a scoreless inning in his RubberDucks debut.
Duck Tales
Second baseman José Tena had the first hit of the season on a first-inning, two-out single to center field. Akron did not record another hit off right-hander Reese Olson in his four-inning start. Third baseman Daniel Schneemann, playing his first regular season game since a hand injury in Erie last July 31, hit a fifth-inning, two-out triple but was stranded at third base, the only runner in scoring position for Akron.
Notebook

Orrville High School graduate J.T. Perez worked a perfect eighth inning for the SeaWolves...Game Time: 2:36...Attendance: 2,098.
