Portland Sea Dogs News Release
The Sea Dogs capped off an eight-game homestand in seven days, defeating the Trenton Thunder, 10-5 on Thursday afternoon at Hadlock Field. Portland splits their four-game series with Trenton and finishes the homestand at 4-4.
Jeremy West led the 15-hit attack for the Sea Dogs, going 4-for-5 with 3 RBI and improving his team-leading average to .295. Portland scored their 10 runs with five 2-run innings off four different pitchers. Tyler Minges had three hits and Chris Durbin went 2-for-4 with an RBI double in the eighth.
Jose Vaquedano (4-1) earned his third win in five starts, working five and 2/3 innings, allowing four hits, three runs and fanning eight (season high). Jon Searles and Randy Beam both allowed runs but settled down to notch holds. Edgar Martinez pitched a clean ninth, getting Shelley Duncan to ground into a game-ending double play.
Phillip Hughes (2-2) suffered the loss for the Thunder, allowing six runs in five innings on eight hits and two walks.
Portland scored five 2-out runs, receiving a two-out double by David Bacani in the second inning for the game's first two runs. Bacani snapped an 0-for-21 slump, his worse drought of the season.
Felix Escalona knocked in two for the Thunder, including the go ahead run in the fourth inning, giving Trenton their only lead at 3-2.
