Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
William Collazo threw 7 2/3 scoreless innings and Wilson Batista provided the game's only offense with a solo homer, helping the Binghamton Mets beat the Reading Phillies 1-0 at NYSEG Stadium Thursday. The win snaps Binghamton's five-game losing streak.
Binghamton (22-32) had trouble solving Reading lefthander Daniel Haigwood, who no-hit the B-Mets for the first 5 2/3 innings. Batista broke up the scoreless tie and the no-hitter when he reached Haigwood (1-4) for a two-out homer in the sixth. The B-Mets would finish with three hits on the day.
Meanwhile, Reading (21-31) wasn't having much success against Collazo (4-4). The southpaw worked with baserunners in all but one inning, but didn't give up a run while scattering four hits and striking out four. Matt Lindstrom gave up a single to the first man he faced in the eighth, but struck out the final four hitters to face him, picking up his first save.
Friday, the B-Mets continue their six-game homestand, starting a three-game series with the Harrisburg Senators. Mike Pelfrey (0-1, 3.49) gets the ball for Binghamton against southpaw Oscar Alvarez (2-3, 4.37) of Reading. Game time is 7:00 from NYSEG Stadium with the Horizons Federal Credit Union Pre-Game Show kicking off the broadcast at 5:45 on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
