Portland Sea Dogs News Release

Portland, Maine- The Portland Sea Dogs, class AA Eastern League affiliate of the World Champion Boston Red Sox, are proud to announce that they will be going to bat for Maine's military bases with a special Save Our Bases Night at the ballpark on Wednesday, June 22nd when the Sea Dogs take on the Trenton Thunder (Yankees) at 7:00 PM.

On May 6th Mainers learned that the Pentagon's Base Re-alignment and Closure committee had recommended that the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery be shutdown and the Brunswick Naval Air Station be re-aligned. In support of removing Portsmouth and Brunswick from the re-alignment and closure list, the Portland Sea Dogs will donate 50% of all ticket sales from June 1st through June 22nd for the June 22nd Save Our Bases Night game to the task forces committed to keeping these bases open.

In addition, the Sea Dogs will have giant card for fans to sign to show their support for Maine's military bases. The Sea Dogs will forward the cards on to the Base Re-alignment and Closure Commission.

Representatives from both bases will be on hand to throw out the ceremonial first pitch. Special invitations have also been extended to Maine's political leaders who are fighting hard for Maine's bases.

"It has always been our belief that we are more than just a baseball team but also a strong contributing member of the community, stated Sea Dogs President and General Manager Charlie Eshbach. "When our community is forced to deal with the reality of this hardship, we want to show support for those who have supported us in so many ways."

Tickets for the June 22nd game can be purchased by calling the Sea Dogs Ticket Office at 207-879-9500, on-line at www.seadogs.com, or in person at the Hadlock Field Box Office.
