Trenton Thunder News Release
(Erie, PA)- Trenton got home runs from Shelley Duncan, Eric Duncan and Kevin Thompson to lead a 13-hit attack in a 7-4 win over Erie on Thursday night. The win snapped a seven-game losing streak for the Thunder.
Trenton (27-27) saw Shelley Duncan start the 2nd Inning with a solo homer off Erie starter Virgil Vasquez for the early lead. It was Shelley's 14th home run of the year to give him the Eastern League lead.
They added doubles later in the inning from Bronson Sardinha and Andy Cannizaro for a 2-0 lead. Back-to-back homers from Kevin Thompson and Eric Duncan ran the Thunder lead to 4-0 with an RBI single from Sardinha adding a fifth run later in the inning. Vasquez (1-2) allowed six runs on nine hits in five innings.
Trailing 7-0 in the seventh, Erie (30-24) rallied for four runs off starter Charlie Isaacson and reliever Ben Julianel. RBI singles by Victor Mendez and Gil Mejia, along with a two-run single by Juan Tejeda scored the runs. Isaacson (2-2) earned the win allowing three runs on six hits in six innings with two walks and seven strikeouts.
The SeaWolves added a run in the 9th Inning off Julianel to make it a 7-5 game. They had the tying run at the plate, but Justin Pope came on to get Tejeda to fly out and end the game. It was the 11th save of the season for Pope.
