Altoona Curve News Release
HARRISBURG, PA-- Harrisburg shortstop Ramon Castro blasted a three-run first-inning home run and finished with five RBI's as the Senators won their second straight over the Altoona Curve, 6-3, Thursday afternoon at Commerce Bank Park in Harrisburg.
After dropping the opener of the three-game series Tuesday night, Harrisburg (23-28) rallied to win the final two games of the set. The Curve (26-24) lost for the 13th time in their past 17 road games.
Castro opened the Harrisburg scoring with his three-run shot in the first inning off of Curve starter Matt Peterson, who was returning to the mound after missing his last start due to soreness in his right shoulder. Castro then delivered a key two-out, two-run single with the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth off reliever Ben Shaffar to cap a three-run inning that provided the Senators with the winning margin in the contest.
Jeremy Harts (1-2) was tagged with the loss after allowing three runs on six hits in four innings of work. The Senators' three runs in the sixth inning were all charged to reliever Harts, who walked home the go-ahead run before leaving the game in favor of Shaffar with the bases loaded.
Altoona had evened the game at 3-3 with a run in the second inning on a solo homer by Ray Sadler--his third of the season--and two runs in the third on a sacrifice fly by Tom Evans a throwing error by third baseman Shawn Norris that led to a tally.
Harrisburg starter Justin Echols worked six innings and allowed three runs--two earned--on five hits to pick up the win and even his record at 3-3 on the season. Saul Rivera struck out the side in the ninth to notch his second save.
The Curve offense managed just five hits, and no player recorded more than one safety in the contest.
Altoona will make the short trek to Reading to open a four-game series against the Phillies Friday night with a 6:05 PM doubleheader at First Energy Stadium. The Curve will send lefty Paul Maholm (2-2, 3.48) to the mound for the opener of the twinbill and right-hander Hansel Izquierdo (1-3, 5.80) in game two. Reading will counter with righty Carlos Chantres (2-6, 5.85) and southpaw Jeff Wilson (0-1, 6.65).
