Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
After not having a call-up for over a month, two Binghamton Mets players learned today they were headed to Triple-A Norfolk â outfielder Prentice Redman and lefthanded pitcher Tim Hamulack. The B-Mets also learned the would be receiving righthanded pitcher Anderson Garcia from High-A St. Lucie.
After going 2 for 4 with an RBI double and two runs scored in today's 12-9 loss to Akron, Redman departs with a .311 average, four home runs and 29 RBI in 45 games for the B-Mets. Redman has seen action with Norfolk in each of the last two seasons and earned a 15-game call-up to the New York Mets in 2003. Prentice, who started the 2004 season with Binghamton and won the Doubleday Award as the B-Mets' MVP in 2002, has hit .289 with 28 homers and 141 RBI in 243 career games with Binghamton. Redman, the Mets' 10th-round pick in the 1999 draft, has spent his entire six-season career in the Mets organization.
Hamulack notched a 2-2 record with six saves in seven opportunities and a 1.26 ERA in a team-high 21 relief appearances for the B-Mets. The southpaw also struck out 27 and walked six in 28 2/3 innings. Last season, Tim pitched in the Boston Red Sox organization and spent most the year with their Triple-A affiliate in Pawtucket, RI. He also pitched for the Seattle Mariners' Triple-A club in Tacoma, WA in 2003. After being signed this past off-season as a minor league free-agent, Tim was a non-roster invitee to the Mets' Major League spring training camp. The Mets are Tim's fifth organization in his ten seasons.
Garcia re-joins the B-Mets after joining them for one day last month. The righthander made a spot start for Binghamton at Erie on May 7th, pitching 3 2/3 scoreless innings. The rest of Anderson's 2005 season has been spent with St. Lucie, where he is 2-2 with three saves and a 2.70 ERA in 16 appearances out of the bullpen. The Dominican Republic native also walked nine and struck out 20 in 26 2/3 innings. Garcia, who was acquired by the Mets organization in a July 2003 trade with the New York Yankees that sent relief pitcher Armando Benitez to the Bronx, had never pitched above A ball until this year, his sixth in the minors. He's expected to be in uniform Friday, when the B-Mets start a three-game series at Trenton.
The call-ups of Redman and Hamulack are Binghamton's first since April 20th, when righthanded pitcher Tim Lavigne was assigned to Norfolk.
