NO WELCOME PARTY:The Sea Dogs suffered their second straight loss on Friday night and have not scored a run in 16 consecutive innings...Tonight the âDogs and âCats play game two of their series and finish out the 3‐game set tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 PM...The Sea Dogs begin a 26‐game stretch against the Southern Division on Monday night against the Phillies in Reading...New Hampshire has won 3 of the last 5 games at Hadlock Field and trails Portland by 1.5 games for 4th place in the Northern Division.
SAME NAME DIFFERENT TEAM: New Hampshire's trio of RHP Randy Boone (7‐5), RHP Zach Dials (Hold) and RHP Daniel Farquhar (Save) combined on a 7‐hit shutout as the Fisher Cats defeated the Portland Sea Dogs 3‐0 in the series opener on Friday night at Hadlock Field. RHP Jarod Plummer (7‐5) lasted five innings and suffered the loss for Portland, allowing three hits, two runs, three walks and fanned five. Boone fired 7 scoreless frames, yielding four hits, two walks and fanned five for the visitors. SS Jonathan Diaz, 2B Brad Emaus and RF Nick Gorneault had RBI hits for the Fisher Cats. Portland did not have a runner reach third base and had one extra‐base hit (1B Jon Still double)
IT ALL STARTS HERE: Despite allowing two runs over 5 IP, Plummer picked up the 8th straight effective start by a Portland pitcher...Over the last eight days, the starters have allowed only 3 runs over 41 IP (0.66 ERA)...RHP Chris Province worked two scoreless innings last night and is scoreless in 9 of his last 11 outings...LHP Dustin Richardson walked two in the eighth but finish the frame scoreless...Lawson is looking for his first win since beating the Connecticut Defenders on May 24 at Hadlock Field.
WAY TO GO RYAN: OF Ryan Kalish picked up two hits last night and improved his average to a season high .250 (59‐for‐236)...Kalish is hitting .290 (51‐for‐176), 4 HR and 23 RBI since June 1...The New Jersey native was hitting .133 (8‐for‐60), 0 HR and 5 RBI through May...Still picked up his team‐leading 27th double and continues to lead all Red Sox Minor Leaguers with 62 RBI.
AGAINST THE NORTH: Portland is 15‐15 during a 32‐game stretch against the Northern Division...The Sea Dogs start a 26‐game run against the South on Monday night against the Phillies in Reading, PA.
