Harrisburg knocks off Trenton

(Harrisburg, PA)- Harrisburg Outfielder Matt Whitney hit a three-run home run, and had four RBI, to lift the Senators to a 7-2 win over Trenton on Saturday night from Metro Bank Park in Harrisburg, PA. The loss clinched the three-game series for Harrisburg, and Trenton's first series loss since a three-game series against the New Britain Rock Cats (7/4-7/6).
Down 2-0 in the fourth inning, Harrisburg scored three runs to take the lead. Right fielder Leonard Davis doubled off of Thunder Starting Pitcher Paul Bush to start the inning. With one out, Left fielder Marvin Lowrance walked to put runners at first and second base. After Bush struck out First baseman Bill Rhinehart, Designated Hitter Matt Whitney connected on a two-out three-run home run to put Harrisburg on top 3-2. The Senators added three runs in the sixth inning to increase their lead to 6-2. Lowrance doubled to start the inning against Trenton Reliever Humberto Sanchez. With one out, Whitney singled to left field to bring home Lowrance and make it 4-2. Later in the inning, Catcher Sean Rooney reached on an infield single with two outs to move Whitney to second base. Trenton Reliever Grant Duff came on for Sanchez to face Center fielder Mike Daniel with runners at first and second base and two outs. Daniel doubled to score Whitney and Rooney and stretch the lead to 6-2. Harrisburg made it 7-2 in the seventh inning on an RBI single by Rhinehart.
Trenton scored single runs in the second and third innings to jump out to a 2-0 lead. Thunder Catcher Jesus Montero led off the top of the second inning with a solo home run off of Harrisburg Starting Pitcher Matt Chico (2-2) to give the Thunder a 1-0 lead. The home run was his eighth of the season for the Thunder in 38 games, and now gives him 16 home runs between Tampa and Trenton on the year. In the third inning, Outfielder James Cooper singled. He moved up to second base on a ground out by Center fielder Austin Krum. With two outs, Shortstop Eduardo Nunez connected on an RBI single to plate Cooper. Montero had two hits in the loss for the Thunder. In his second Thunder start, Bush (0-1) allowed three hits and three runs over four innings. He struck out five and walked three. Chico (2-2) yielded four hits and two runs over five innings to pick up his second win for the Senators. Harrisburg's bullpen combined to toss four shutout innings and only allowed one hit.
Harrisburg will go for the three-game sweep over Trenton on Sunday afternoon. LHP Jeremy Bleich (1-3, 6.26) will start for Trenton against Harrisburg RHP Jeff Mandel (0-0, 0.00). Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
