Davis and Duda Go Back-to-Back in B-Mets 9-6 Loss

Ike Davis and Lucas Duda hit back-to-back homers in the fourth inning off Erie starter Luis Marte, but a nine-run third inning from the SeaWolves proved to be decisive in Binghamton's 9-6 loss at Jerry Uht Park Saturday night. Davis went 3-5 with a double, a homer and two RBIs extending his hitting streak to 10 games.

Down 9-3 entering the ninth, a loss seemed imminent for Binghamton (38-61). However, the B-Mets mounted a charge, bringing the tying run to the plate before falling. Jose Coronado led off the inning by reaching on an error by shortstop Cale Iorg and was joined on base by Emmanuel Garcia, who was walked by reliever Jared Gayhart. Ruben Tejada then ripped a double down the left field line to score Coronado.

After Josh Thole struck out, Davis grounded out to short to score Garcia bringing the deficit to 9-5. Duda walked on four pitches following the groundout, forcing Gayhart from the game. With runners at the corners, Cody Satterwhite came on looking for the final out. D.J. Wabick worked the count full on him before singling through the right side to score Tejada cutting it to 9-6. Representing the tying run, Caleb Stewart fouled out to first to end the game.

Erie (56-43) chased Jake Ruckle from the game in the third inning thanks to a record-setting inning from Erie. The SeaWolves chalked up season-best nine runs in the third frame on a two-run triple from Brennan Boesch, a Casper Wells three-run homer and an Andy Dirks grand slam to take a 9-0 lead.

Ruckle went 2.2 innings allowing a season-worst nine runs on seven hits and three walks to take the loss.

Ramon Garcia was credited with his second win for tossing 3.1 innings of scoreless relief. SeaWolves starter Luis Marte lasted just 3.2 innings before leaving a bases-loaded situation to Garcia in the fourth.

Satterwhite notched his 12th save by getting the final out of the game after spelling Gayhart.

Wabick went 2-5 with a triple and an RBI and Coronado extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a 1-3 showing, including two runs scored.

Binghamton will try to salvage the series in the finale of the three-game set Sunday afternoon. The B-Mets will send RHP Dylan Owen (3-6, 5.55) to the mound tomorrow and Erie will toss LHP Jon Kibler (6-5, 3.71). The first pitch is scheduled for 1:05 and the radio broadcast on Newsradio 1290 WNBF begins at 12:50 with the Horizons Federal Credit Union Pre-Game Show.
