NEWS AND NOTES

HOPING FOR BROOMSTICKS : Tonight the Sea Dogs go for a three-game sweep of the Altoona Curve (Pirates' affiliate) at People's Natural Gas Field. Portland won the first two games of the series by a combined two runs (2-1, 9-8). A win would give the 'Dogs their second straight series sweep at Altoona (2-0 in 2014) and the fourth in team history. Portland's last loss in Altoona was a 2-0 defeat on 8/15/13. The Sea Dogs' last three-game road sweep was August 22-24, 2014 at New Hampshire.

ABOUT LAST NIGHT : Yesterday the Sea Dogs took a back-and-forth affair 9-8 thanks to a pair of homers in the ninth from Carlos Asuaje and Keury De La Cruz - the seventh home run of the season for each player, tying them with David Chester for the team lead. The Sea Dogs held a three-run lead headed into the bottom of the ninth and Altoona scored twice off of Simon Mercedes before Kyle Martin entered the game with two on and nobody out and retired all three batters he faced (the final two on strikeouts) to earn his fourth save of the year.
