Big Second Inning Backs Brault's Strong Start in 7-2 Curve Win

CURVE, Pa. - The Altoona Curve plated six runs in the second inning and rolled to a 7-2 win over the Portland Sea Dogs on Thursday night at Peoples Natural Gas Field. Jonathan Schwind and Jose Osuna knocked in two runs while Barrett Barnes hit his third homer of the season in the game.

Steven Brault (Win, 7-3) won his sixth consecutive decision, allowing two runs (one earned) over 6.1 innings with five strikeouts.

The Curve (65-59) closed back within one game of Akron in the E.L. Western Division wild card chase. Portland (46-78) was held to just 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position on the night.

A sacrifice fly by Jacob Stallings in the second inning put the Curve ahead, 1-0. Osuna and Schwind hit two-run doubles to extend the Altoona advantage to 5-0. Erich Weiss closed off the inning with a sacrifice fly to cap the six-run outburst.

Altoona chased Portland starter Danny Rosenbaum (Loss, 0-6) in the second inning.

Portland shortstop Tzu-Wei Lin clubbed a two-run triple to get the Sea Dogs on the board in the fifth.

Barnes smashed a solo shot to left field to push the Curve lead to 7-2.

John Kuchno (Hold, 8) pitched 1.2 perfect innings with a strikeouts and Brett McKinney worked around two hits for a scoreless ninth.

Over his last seven starts, Brault is now 6-0 with a 1.25 ERA.

Altoona travels to Bowie to open a three-game set on Friday night. First pitch from Prince George's Stadium is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Southpaw Zack Dodson (6-10, 4.00) will start for the Curve while left-hander Chris Lee (3-0, 2.08) on the hill for the Baysox.
