Altoona, Pa. - The Altoona Curve (65-59) scored six runs in the second inning and never looked back, deafening the Portland Sea Dogs (46-78), 7-2 on Thursday night at Peoples Natural Gas Field. Despite the loss, the 'Dogs took two of three from the Curve in the series.
The Curve sent 10 men to the plate in the second inning, scoring six runs off losing pitcher Danny Rosenbaum (0-6). Jacob Stallings put the Curve on the board with a sac-fly to centerfield. Jonathan Schwind and Jose Osuana added 2-run doubles and the final run came on a sac-fly by Erich Weiss.
Rosenbaum was charged with his 6th loss in eight starts, yielding six runs (four earned) on four hits, three walks and two strikeouts.
Curve lefty Steven Brault (7-3) improved to 6-0 in his last 7 starts, tossing 6.1 innings on seven hits, two runs one walk and five strikeouts. John Kuchno retired all five batters and faced and Brett McKinney pitched a scoreless ninth.
The Sea Dogs got on the board in the fifth inning against Brault. Tzu-Wei Lin (2-for-3, BB) smacked a two-run triple down the right-field line. Manuel Margot went 3-for-5 with a run scored. Carlos Asuaje extended his hitting streak to six games by going 1-for-4.
Portland's bullpen was outstanding, receiving 2.2 scoreless innings of relief from Mike Augliera, who stranded a one-out triple by Adam Frazier in the fourth. Williams Jerez tossed two perfect innings. John Cornely worked two innings allowing a solo-homer to Barrett Barnes to lead-off the eighth.
The Portland Sea Dogs open up a three-game weekend series on Friday night against the Harrisburg Senators (Nationals affiliate) at Metro Bank Park - first pitch is 7:00 PM. RHP Luis Diaz (1-9, 5.38) makes his 24th start of the season for Portland. The Senators counter with RHP Colin Bates (4-4, 3.94). Pre-Game coverage begins on the WPEI U.S. Cellular Sea Dogs Radio network at 6:40 PM .
